THE COLOR PALETTE ISSUE
Among the list of things to do when planning your wedding day, one of the first and most important things to do is to decide on a color scheme.
A lot of brides come and ask me what the color trend for wedding decorations is. I personally always tell them to forget what is trendy and to choose a color that best fits them and they find comfortable and relaxing for their eyes.
Long time ago, people used to choose the color white to accent their white wedding dress; however, nowadays the colors being used for decorations ranges from white to soft pink to vibrant red to any color whatsoever.
ASK YOURSELF: WHAT MOOD DO I WANT TO CREATE?
Keep in your mind that the main tip in choosing your color is asking yourself what mood you want to create. For instance, if you’re a classic person and looking for a shabby-chic wedding style you might think of going for pastel colors like light pink and purple. Another major factor is the location of your event, you must check if the venue already has décor or color. The color scheme and décor for a wedding at the beach for example differs from that of a hotel. The colors of your event venue or the venue itself can spark an idea for the colors and style of your event.
THE 5 CRUTIAL ELEMENTS:
To begin with, you must first focus on the five essential elements of a wedding: Attire, invitations, flowers, cake and favors.
WEDDING DRESS: As we can see these days, the wedding dress is no longer solid white only. If you are going for a champagne color dress you might go for gold accessories for example. Another point you should pay attention to is the bridesmaid dresses and the color of the ties of the groom and his men. Make sure to match these colors with that of the wedding decoration.
INVITATIONS CARDS: Second, the wedding invitation cards set the stage for your event. It’s not obligatory however I personally like to coordinate the invitation card fabric, fonts, and ribbon with that of the wedding mood.
FLOWERS: As for the flowers and accessories, check which season will you be doing your wedding in order to check what flowers will be available and what color suits best. For example, tulips are mainly found abundantly in April during Spring season. If you are doing your wedding around the spring time, I would suggest you go for rosy pink or peach colors and go for brighter colors in summer like fuchsia and yellow. Light pastels work well for winter weddings. If your favorite flowers are not available, go for neutral white flowers and a bit of greenery so you can emphasize the rest of the decoration. You can never go wrong with this classic style and white flowers can range from orchids to hydrangea to garden roses
WEDDING CAKES: The wedding cake can range from a simple two layered white cake to a huge volcano. You can use all sort of colorful sugar flowers, ribbons, stripes, and effects to decorate your cake. Make sure the cake decoration is harmonious with that of the whole event.
WEDDING FAVORS: I always like the event favors to personalized and meaningful rather than something that matches the décor or something typical. Souvenirs can add a beautiful touch to your color scheme. Using colorful wraps, tags or ribbons that match with the table centerpieces is another way to play with the colors. Whatever colors you choose it will definitely create a vibe for your event day. Don’t follow what’s trendy or what your mother or sister likes, choose the color that you are most drawn to. Last but not least, do not stress too much on every detail to match the color code. As long as the style, texture, mood and color are all in harmony you are on the right track.
